Re: Japanese nationals and businesses under attack in China

A car carrying the U.S. ambassador to China was mildly damaged after becoming the target of boisterous anti-Japan demonstrators who were expressing outrage over a territorial dispute and marking the 81st anniversary of Japan's invasion of China.
The State Department said in a statement Wednesday that Ambassador Gary Lockewas unhurt in Tuesday's incident, and that diplomats have expressed concerns to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The statement said around 50 protesters surrounded Locke's car as he tried to enter the embassy and were eventually removed by Chinese security personnel.

Wow, that is some of the best policing I have seen in a long time. I do not think protestors would have been treated so kindly in the United States. D.C. Police would have been beating/tazing these "terrorist" scumbags before the FBI got there to dig into their private lives (will they ever be able to take an airline flight again?).

Yes Aaron, those were my thoughts as well.

Shall we call it a State-Sanctioned Demo? My favorite part is the column (?) of guards that run past the "demonstrators" to stand in front of the gate.

The Chinese have thousands of "civil disturbances" every year and over the decades, arguably over the centuries, have developed sophisticated methods of dealing with crowds. Running past the demonstrators signaled to the demonstrators that they were on the scene, organized, and ready to take action. Part theater, but mostly psychology.
