Thanks for posting this. I just did a blog post on an aspect of this. It would be terrific if we could get some good discussion going on this issue.

I will start. Look at the chart he posted in the article. It looks to me like both industrial output and M1 are going DOWN not up. There is no evidence of a turn around just from looking at that chart.

It is surprising how two people can look at the same thing and see different things. This is John Hussman commenting on the exact same chart:
In contrast, the latest JP Morgan global manufacturing report observes that "production and new orders both fell for the second month running in July, with rates of contraction gathering pace." The chart below presents the global purchasing managers index (PMI), which has now weakened to levels last seen during the last two recessions.

I downloaded and prepared a similar chart from FRED data so that I could do linear interpolation on the data, but after looking at it I decided that I would leave the interpretation up to you. Look at this chart and tell me, is industrial production going up or down? Is (admittedly US only) M1 growth going up or down? Is currency ( growth) in circulation going up or down?

      P.S.
Would it be too much to ask that the spelling in this otherwise impeccable thread title be improved a little? Fred?

          point made.

btw, i noted that you said you had discussed it in your blog post, so i took a look at that. i would request that instead of posting to your blog, [which i at least never think to check since most folks here don't seem to use that feature], you just start threads [which will always show up when i click on "what's new"].

I'm trying to keep my thoughts on the blog separate from the main discussion thread because they on the whole have nothing to do with iTulip thought and I don't want people to confuse the two. You will note that in the blog post I wrote on this, I made a big deal out of an expressly hyperinflationist chart. EJ doesn't want this point of view to represent what he thinks is going to happen. Even going to the extent of denying the possibility of hyperinflation in the US on financialsense radio. This present thread is more general and doesn't mention hyperinflation.

i think you'd get more discussion, and i know i would appreciate it, if you just started a NEW thread - perhaps with a link in a discussion you're bouncing off. i think discussing a hyperinflationist hypothesis is well within the remit of itulip forums. just because ej doesn't buy it doesn't mean it's not worth bringing up. frankly, if it elicited a specific and updated rebuttal from ej, that would be very interesting. and if he didn't comment, i think we're still allowed to discuss it here. it's relevant to the subject matter, and itulip very much isn't a realm for totalitarian thought control.

You know, A blog is kind of self centered and pretentious. I also think that I am out of things to say. How about you Mr. Bergin? Why do you think that M1 is expanding at 15-20% per year and where do you think this whole money thing is going?
