I don't understand why someone would spend so much time drawing arcs on these charts. If technical analysis worked, 90% of market participants would be getting rich. Are 90% of market participants getting rich?

I think this is more along the lines of "The End Is Near" protestors than actual projections of what is going to happen.

I don't much care for the unadulterated technical analysis either, but just to play devils advocate for a while; what do you think of this piece which I posted the other day:

the only thing it points me to tho - off the top - is:
the insanity of NOT fully developing what is likely the only Ace in The Hole, we - that is The USA - possesses
        and OWNS OUTRIGHT:

some kind of nuclear power technology/strategy
methinks some kind of 'moonshot-mission critical' program to develop one, as quick as another borrowed trillion can finance - would solve so many problems that we are facing today - that its really quite astonishing that its left for dead, while we continue to blow trillions on imported oil, fighting wars over imported oil and pollute the air (and oceans) to burn coal

just dumb(founding) it is, if i may 'tro in my .02

It is insane. The simple solutions are there, but people are unwilling to take them because of corruption, malaise, and irrationality.

You are not getting my point. This isn't about whether the ideas presented in the (to me) excellent article are correct or not, but how she arrived at her conclusions. I was trying to start a debate about the merits of technical analysis ( which the entire article is if you missed that).

If you like the work, please click on the linky at the bottom and send your thoughts to the lady that wrote it. She will appreciate it, not me.

First, begin the process by forming a conclusion (dome d dome). Then cherry-pick a bunch of grafts to fit the conclusion (dome dome dome). God forbid the data dont fit, change the data (d.d.d.d. dome).

At this point my view of technical analysis is that it is the financial equivalent of the Rorschach blots - i.e. you can see anything there thus it primarily just reveals what you are already thinking.

So in this sense, technical analysis is useful as a tool for quantifying the intuitive thoughts. Perhaps it may have some value for choosing the person for 'betting on the man'. Certainly TA has its uses in searching out areas where patterns may actually exist because behavior is in some way governed by actual laws.

But far, far from clear there is a fundamental basis behind a lot of the highly detailed TA that is presented as investment advice.
