      +1 to that
      check out these Conch Cruisers
tell me these beauties dont make ya wanna jump on a gofer a ride...

The only thing that gets me about South Florida and the Keys in particular is my perception of a lack of permanence. Seeing the swath of damage from Andrew years later really stuck with me.

The upside I see is my Kiwi dollar would EASILY buy TWICE as much house in Florida than NZ at the moment.
just make sure its up on stilts and CBS (concrete block & stucco) and you should be ok

End Prohibition? What a concept . . . (is there a line on if/when the US drug enforcement team will move into Uruguay?)

Re: Driving in the Sunshine State

So I was traveling with someone in their car the other day to perform some maintenance on it for them. We get to a local gas station where the air pump station is blocked off by an SUV. The owner of the SUV, an older lady, returns to it and starts to back out. She is looking into her side mirror as she backs up for what seems like an eternity. Even though she should have seen us in the 10 seconds she was backing up, we had to reverse to prevent her from hitting us. How the heck?

And then we got behind this older gentleman at an intersection. He was trying to turn right, but he waited there for a good minute before doing so because he must have been terrified of being hit by cars coming from 100 meters away at 20 mph.

I don't get why people suck so much at driving.

Interesting angle, but since the goal is to grow for the local pop, which is estimated as pretty small, I think DEA will overlook them in their glow-ball war on drugs.

Air Force? I don't even think they have one. They have a very small navy, and realistically, they couldn't repel anyone down there. The whole country is as big as the State of Washington and only has 3.5m people. I think Uruguay counts on being the seat of Mercosur (south american NAFTA), as well as having two big neighbors who would never let the other guy take them over. Thus, they are the little Switzerland of S.A.

Re: Driving in the Sunshine State

Uruguay's political and labor conditions are among the freest on the continent.

Uruguay's economy is characterized by an export-oriented agricultural sector, a well-educated work force, and high levels of social spending. Following financial difficulties in the late 1990s and early 2000s, economic growth for Uruguay averaged 8% annually during the period 2004-08. The 2008-09 global financial crisis put a brake on Uruguay's vigorous growth, which decelerated to 2.6% in 2009. Nevertheless, the country managed to avoid a recession and keep positive growth rates, mainly through higher public expenditure and investment, and GDP growth reached 8.5% in 2010 and 6% in 2011.

it's like a little oasis i stubled upon when i first looked to invest in Brasil. Only I think uruguay is much 'safer' as a place to buy land, and it is far less complicated to do business there as a farmer compared to Brasil OR the US.
