The gold bar that Pisani claimed to be owned by GLD but wasn't... Perhaps he was only allowed to touch bars in a certain area, an area that held bars belonging to another entity, so they just used one of those bars as an example. I'm whistling past the graveyard here...

No, sure don't. But do consider that when he bought back about 10 years ago, he bought physical rather than stocks.

I sure wouldn't buy an ETF like GLD for my core or long term holds.



For what its worth and somewhat OT, when the SLV ETF started up I did notice that their initial physical quantity was quite close to what Buffet sold around the same time.

Let's not forget that GLD bought the bar from someone.

Unless they're incredibly incompetent, there are records where every single bit of gold owned by GLD should have come from, etc etc.

Not saying GLD is a great place to buy long term gold either, but the counterparty risks inherent in GLD have nothing to do with possible fake bars.

Yep, saw it - and thanks. Marketing and naming sure isn't Lance Lewis' strong point.

And in blast-my-own-horn mode, my secret sauce algo triggered on the HUI on about 5/15... so far, so good. Up about 15%.
