  • Woodward and Berstein Recap

"The Senate investigation provided more detail about the effectiveness of the covert efforts against Muskie, who in 1971 and early 1972 was considered by the White House to be the Democrat most capable of beating Nixon. The president’s campaign paid Muskie’s chauffeur, a campaign volunteer named Elmer Wyatt, $1,000 a month to photograph internal memos, position papers, schedules and strategy documents, and deliver copies to Mitchell and Nixon’s campaign staff."

Back in the daze when domestic staffs were a commonplace among the upper classes, chauffeurs were, besides driving, expected to clean and mechanically maintain the autos and provide physical protection for their Boss. Transportation dependence on the chauffeur also meant he was privy to the Boss's itinerary, legal and otherwise, including mistresses. He also knew the family's at-home schedule, usually down to the hour. Consequently chauffeurs were a two-edge sword for our betters.

Whose working on the software that can mine all that and come up with the ore?
