"If the street protests in Quebec, the most important resistance movement in the industrialized world, spread to all of Canada and reach the United States, there remains the possibility of hope."

The problem is really a number of issues. Why have tuition and fees risen much faster than the rate of inflation. What is the real budget of academia?

What are students spending their money on? Back in the sixties a cup of coffee was 10 cents. How many students are paying $8 a day at Starbucks? a buddy has a son going to college that says weekends are nothing but drinking binges for many students. How many really finish in four years; how many take 5, 6 or more years to finish?

Where is responsible journalism that examines what is really going on, instead of sensational articles about protests against the "system"?

      quote from friend...

"Don't know why this is a "Maple Spring" as it was one of the worst ones in some time for sap production. Read that there a million young Canadians not in school and unemployed so it is hard to see how a university degree will pay for itself at today's prices. Charest might do alright if the students keep the mafia inquiry off the front pages of the dailies."
