  • A Canadian irony

Picture below: Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of Canada, an ex Goldman boy, launches a new plastic $20 Canadian bill to.... wait for it... prevent counterfeiting.

Irony #1: The Central Bank is the biggest counterfeiter of them all!
Irony #2: Canada is now officially a petro dollar currency... even our bills are made of oil!

PS. The queen on the bill again? Really? Can we please get rid of the British monarchy in our government already?
    Warning: Network Engineer talking economics!

And whom would you like to replace her with? Adrienne Clarkson? Wendy Mesley (Canada's favourite pixie)? How about a mugshot of the late PET? Or maybe we should honour our history, tolerance and multiculturalism by putting long time National Statesman Gilles Duceppe on one of the new saranwrap bills?

Believe me, the best part about keeping the Queen on our money is avoidance of the endless and nauseating national diarrhea...sorry, dialogue...that will erupt on any serious talk of replacement. Worst idea since Mulroney tried to get Meech Lake ratified.

Something tells me that the Queen is on the currency for a very serious reason. Could it be an ownership reason squirreled away in linguistic babel of a long forgotten treaty so that the sheeple don't know how it is done? Maybe it is as simple as her getting a percentage of Canadian business generated by her financial "agents" ? Not a pizzeria mind you but something on the scale of a dam.

i think the euro solution is rather elegant: pictures of fake monuments that can't be identified with any locality.

Yes, it is indeed elegant. Unfortunately, it is also turning out to be a metaphor for the Eurozone. The responsibility to back it simply can't be traced to any one place or person. ;)
