    paid apprenticeship programs...
60% of German high school grads choose vocational over academic education...

Today Germany has a problem that Britain, Spain and other European countries can only dream of: It doesn't have enough skilled workers to meet the demands of its economy. Almost one-third of German companies could not fill open jobs in 2011.
To address the mismatch between jobs and the labor market, the German government just made it a little easier for skilled foreign workers outside the EU to come to Germany

And take out a massive loan from a TBTF to fund it.
I heard that was obligatory under a Constitutional amendment in the USA

you guys just dont get it....
what the USA needs is more degrees such masters in social work, masters in edu, masters in gender studies, masters in ethnic studies, etc etc.

this will supply more people for the .gov to hire, (since who else hires such people) which will create more demand for gov programs, which ultimately leads to more prosperity - right? (at least thats what the current occupant and his masters of the liberal universe advisors have been telling us)

but i do see some logic in it - that way guys like me (who went to a voc/tech HS) can charge even more to help train the masters types to screw in light bulbs for them, thus boosting the 'service economy'

A semester in Germany costs around 100 € and you get a card to ride public transportation for free.
I remember once an old guy 70+ registering for uni just to get the bus ticket, which was 3-4 times cheaper than buying a regular one for half a year.
So it's not breaking your neck if you try and never finish university ...

Most people just finish Hauptschule (9 classes) or Realschule (10 classes), but you have to finish 12 classes or make Abitur(12-13 classes usually Gymnasium) to be eligible for university or technical college
