  • Hmmm, a 1452 % raise...

drumroll: on average (choke)... that might explain a few things:

Republic Report has released figures documenting the fact that the average member of Congress gets a 1,452% salary hike when she or he leaves office and becomes a corporate lobbyist. They point out that politicians are allowed to negotiate these raises while they are in office, and don't have to disclose this fact when they're working on legislation that will benefit their future employers. One of the poster children for this is former Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) who fought against financial reforms to the derivatives market, then joined the board of a derivatives-trading company and was given an advisory role at Goldman Sachs.

He was just defending the free market and Goldman Sachs was just showing their appreciation!

i'd be less skeptical of this story, or more impressed by the veracity of the author, if it didnt start off with his choice of 'poster child' (esp considering the employer of said poster children who's rather large 'family' of poster children set us up with the shutdown of glass-steagall - but its not 'polite' in media circles to make the other poster children look bad - esp when their team is running the show....)

I'm a republican, but it's obvious that the elephant and the donkey are animals that both eat and live on green$. How about the eledonphantkey, an un-natural chimera with an insatiable appetite and zero gratitude or loyalty to those it professes to serve.

How on earth could this be made a partisan issue? Everyone here knows money rules Washington regardless of party. In fact that's the whole point of the piece.

The Republicans are patently more absurd and destructive from my crow's nest. Even the old-guard intellectuals of the Republican party are alarmed as far as I can see. Bush-era Neo-cons like David Frum are trying desperately to disociate themselves.

But no one is claiming that one party is more corrupted by money than the other. The payoff is a language that both parties are clearly in.

                I despair.

there, there, mr o... please no despairing.

for some of us, it becomes a 'partisan issue' when the media, the liberal's media/propaganda machine continually dumps on the 'pubs, while giving the dems a pass, esp when its one of their pet issues.

and then the libs make fun/dump on fox news, and wondren why they are the number-one rated TV news org?
(and not that eye watch them much, mind you - i'm a PBS kinda guy _when_ watching tv news, which isnt all that often any more - i like documentaries, like inside job, that are 'equal opportunity' and bash both sides - like o'reilly does ;)
