Jon Stewart: Iran situation is just electioneering?

Jon Stewart did an excellent bit tonight where he suggested that the Iran situation is mostly electioneering. In other words, USA, Iran and Israel are all having elections soon so rhetoric is tending to extremes and may have little bearing on reality. It was a very entertaining segment. So the thing to discuss is: how much truth is there in this? Is the situation surrounding Iran partly the result of election rhetoric and something that would have lain dormant in off years?

Ah, here's the clip I was talking about. Anyway, there's obviously a lot more going on than just electioneering and nukes (there's oil and the dollar zone to worry about), but I'm wondering if things might actually cool down a bit after elections.
