a lawyer once told me never to say that because it 1) implied you may not really be being honest and 2) it implied that most of the time you simply were NOT honest.
speech patterns are quite interestig. there are many people who get "stuck" repeating the same things, almost as "filler" while their brains shift to the next point in progression. my mother has several of these, and if I had a $10 spot for each time I have heard them over and over I would be tens of thousands of dollars richer at a minimum. I enjoy Jim Puplava on FSN, and e oftentimes says "well, I mean..." to start a sentence. lots of people are stuck wiht "umm..." or"uhhhh...". "like" is just an ingrained version of slang nowadays.
