  • New York's Finest & the Scum who killed them!

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...de-Center.html

Even as the buildings fell i watched in horror, not just at the bloodshed i was watching in real time but the countless other whom would breath in the deady dust. As an architectural engineer i was well aware of the age of the buildings & the fact that they would contain a deadly mix of some of the nasty-est stuff ever used in the industry.

I was stunned by the goverment telling everyone that everything was fine & there was NOTHING to worry about, the dust was not contamiated !!!!

The lies started there & then, after which i began to wonder how 2 planes could bring down 3 buildings, that last of which was clearly BLOWN.

At the time, I worked downtown and was in NYC within a week of the attack. The air reeked and on the subway platform in the nearby subway (2-3 line at Wall Street), there was a faint greenish hue to the air could be noticed if you looked down along the length of the platform. Not a place to spend much time, I could only imagine how much worse it was at the site.

It always bothered me that even with the large number of federal agencies involved, there weren't immediate requirements for full face respirators (for filtering particulates).

One of my coworkers (also in the environmental remediation biz like I was) was also a volunteer fireman. Some of his fellow volunteers were also NYC firemen involved with some post recovery efforts - I asked him what their perspective was at the time and he felt it was a matter of balancing out an immediate urgent need with the incredible challenges posed by wearing the appropriate gear to perform search and rescue (poor visibility being one).

There were requirements to wear appropriate gear established early on. Not everyone would readily don such equipment during the early days.

Also, if you look at the anecdotal evidence, you find that you really have to work hard to enforce wearing the appropriate safety equipment and following all precautions in all lines of work where hazardous materials are involved - people are not careful in addressing things that they don't immediately suffer from.

It does not surprise me that these officers are suffering, and I'm very sorry to hear of it.
