Re: Western New York's Mysterious Illness
Not sure what's going on there, but I just want to point out that for centuries it was a "known fact" that people with tic disorders and epilepsy were possessed by demons. People with Down's Syndrome were leprechauns. Even today, too many doctors refuse to accept that myalgic encephalomyelitis and multiple chemical sensitivity are real diseases. Instead, they label sufferers as slackers and depressives. Too many women suffer heart attacks because their early symptoms are misdiagnosed as nervous indigestion. Women in general are more likely than men to be told that their illnesses are all in their head.
Maybe these people are all victims of mass suggestion, but maybe, just maybe, they have something wrong with them that hasn't been diagnosed. I'd be more likely to believe the mass suggestion theory if more people viewing Facebook in other parts of the country also came down with it. Does anybody know if they've been tested for prion diseases?
