    with genius ?

Just curious - did Gross DO anything to earn the genius designation? Bonds have been on a one way trip up from the early 80s until just recently.

Swore off computers for a time.

gross revolutionized bond investment by trading them, using futures, playing ratings changes, harvesting roll-yield, etc, instead of just clipping coupons, and for many years earned high performance returns for the category. he is also called the bond king because his shop, pimco, runs about $670 billion [last time i looked, it may be more], mostly in fixed income. [irrelevent but interesting story- gross served in the navy during vietnam, came back with $10,000, went to vegas and made enough card-counting at blackjack to pay his way through stanford business school.]

            Thanks for setting me straight.

I knew about the good performance over a long period of time and the huge amount under management, but I thought all of that could be easily explained by the underlying bull market.
