  • American Policies: Curiouser & Curiouser

    first there was this . . .

The US has publicly declared it will fight discrimination against gays and lesbians abroad . . .

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told an audience of diplomats in Geneva: "Gay rights are human rights".

Similar policies already exist for gender equality and ethnic violence.

Her audience included representatives from countries where homosexuality is a criminal offence.

Many ambassadors rushed out of the room as soon as Mrs Clinton finished speaking, the Associated Press news agency reported.

    followed by the news . . .

The 97-to-3 vote in the Senate last week is causing a few new controversial legislations, but somehow under the radar of many was text that repealed article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. And what does that say? Let’s take a gander:

    (a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense.

    (b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

Now repealed, the military cannot find those that commit those acts guilty of any crime. Now all sorts of sex (anal sex, gay sex, oral sex, rooster sex, et cetera) are fine and dandy.

    picture deemed inappropriate

Apparently Uncle Sam is a lot more understanding of your sexual preferences than you thought.

are the Think Tanks (a relative term) running amok? Will the drone fleet be unleashed against these transgressors. Is Penn State and Syracuse off the hook . . .

I don't see how an unharmful act between two consenting adults should be a crime.
It's Economics vs Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics wins.

I gather, Don, that you believe anal sex should remain criminalized in the U.S. military, and that gay men and women ought not have the right to marry?

How will the repeal of the military ban on anal sex lead to beastiality (which I assume you mean by "rooster sex")? And how does decriminalizing anal sex between two consenting adults exonerate the rape of boys by a grown man (which I assume you mean by your reference to Penn State)?

If you are saying what it appears you're saying, it is truly repugnant and deeply offensive to anyone who is gay or who has a gay friend or family member (the latter two categories of which, like it or not, or know it or not, probably includes just about all of us).

          You're gathering wrong.

Satire and irony have apparently flown over your head on this one . . .

I'm really glad to hear that, Don. I enjoy your posts and wouldn't want to think that you hold such an opinion.

I guess it's a sad commentary on how thin the line is these days between over-the-top satire and everyday reality.

Or maybe it's a sad commentary on how poor my satire-ometer is before I've had my second cup of coffee . . .

At times my first reaction to a posting can be pretty hot until I re-read it and cool down a bit. Most of the time I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Not always, however

Re: American Policies: Curiouser & Curiouser

The same week as the Hilary climb on Showtime's series Homeland the CIA, wishing to turn a Saudi diplomat, had the goods on his visiting a DC bathhouse every week when 'on business'. Laying out the plan they all nodded in agreement, smirking that the penalty in SA was losing yours for homosexuality. When they cornered the guy for their gotcha moment, he said he would not sell out his country and to go ahead, tell, all his wives knew and they loved him still. Crestfallen, the agents rallied at his departure, playing their final trump card from the bottom of the deck. The apple-of-his-eye daughter, an A+ student in America's Ivy League, would be deported and the agency would ensure that no other school in the West would admit her. He rolled . . . .

File under they hate us for our freedom . . . .

It's really no better than 50/50 how your words, or sometimes actions will be interpreted.

yep - and some get a bit too sensitive on this sort of topic...
when most today, IMHO, could care less about what consenting adults want to do to or with each other in the privacy of their abodes - some of us just get tired of being reminded about it, nearly constantly daily, in every form of media, whether it be TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, music/songs, advertising, constantly - ad nauseum.

really, we do and just would appreciate the PC police getting over that fact.

                    and lighten up, fer chrisakes.

I'm not even close to being PC, let alone part of the PC police. I missed the satire on this one, and reacted lightly when shown that fact. No need to pile on, Lektrode.
