Ok, replace the Union power with People power as the high, then hyper inflation hits home.

so far so good mike - but as a Yank (or, as my pals from the carolinas like to say/call me: our token yankee ;)
eye have a few questions, along the lines of how does this mesh with the sitch here in The US?
right off the top (and not knowing much of the details of the background in The UK) it occurs to me that perhaps 'mr wilson' would be played by LBJ, with his 'great society' programs, that 'birmingham' would be played by California and the 'urban renewal' schemes that played out thru the 60's - but what i really want to know about is the transformation of Gr Britain into a 'classless society' seeing as thats what we here in the 'new world' used to have.... (well.. some of us _used-to_ believe we did...)

i cant watch the rest of this right now, but so far its riveting, much obliged!

Since the US shift to neoliberalism, the UK has been the US stalking horse, testing implementation of aspects of the neoliberal agenda. Not a carbon copy but a pilot fish.

Delighted to post, i hear the BBC is about to do a two part program "The Party is over" to explain the "Sheep" why they can't all have BMW's any more.

I have all these on computer, watched them last year, very good. Learned stuff I knew nothing about.

                        Britain in early 1970s = ( civil unrest + civil war in Northern Ireland + Bloody Sunday ) + ( devaluation + new pence ) + ( inflation ) + (respectable poverty + quaintness ) + ( cultural revolution + rebellious youth ) + ( decay + rust + vacancy ) + ( uncompetitive industry + vacant factories ) +( political drift ) + ( the old class system + bloated government ) + (British socialism + trade unions + unemployment ) + ( English weather ) + ( public transit ) + ( right-hand drive ) + ( tourism ) + ( a more humane government ) = [(something like Detroit now ) - (the crime + the winter )] = [( something like Chicago now ) - ( Lake Michigan + the skyscrapers + the Union Stock-yards + the winter + the wind + the food )].
