I agree. The journey itself can be a goal.

That will be a good thing to look for.

      uh... mr E?
you obviously are quite new here and eye would also observe that you are quite well educated - certainly better than me - but would beg your indulgence so that you might realize that the itulip has a VERY smart, highly educated (never mind OPINIONATED) group of participants and we are all here primarily for discussion of FINANCIAL topics, as well as the political implications of what EJ (our 'god' here, if you will) refers to as The Political Economy.

and altho i'm NOT a religious sort, i do have a great deal of respect for those who are that DO NOT force their beliefs on the rest of us - you would be best served around here by acknowleging that some of us 'tulipers _are_ religiously inclined and also happen to be _very_ financially attuned - better to be a listener sometimes than an arguer, esp on topics that are bound to incite animosity

the other thing that i have found, is that the quietly religious are the nicest, most non-judgemental people that i have ever met/known

adding: far as 'the book' is concerned? IMO its closer to a 'history' book than anything else and to disregard whats in it, especially the historical context, is somewhat foolhardy - and hows that one go? "those that ignore history are destined to repeat it"

that said, i like ole george's take on the topic (see video above), but to each his own.

Working its way through the congressional digestive tract like a poison pill is one of the worst ideas in modern legislative history: a bill that would make it illegal to conduct diplomacy with Iran.

In an almost unprecedented move, the Iran Threat Reduction Act of 2011 (H.R. 1905) includes a clause that reads, "No person employed with the United States Government may contact in an official or unofficial capacity any person that ... is an agent, instrumentality, or official of, is affiliated with, or is serving as a representative of the Government of Iran."

It would also be an impermissible interference into the President's constitutional authority to conduct the nation's foreign affairs, and would be ignored (if it survived filibuster and a veto).

yes, they do. And that is why we are doomed.
