  • EJ's former book partner: Useful or a conman?

    Here is the video:

    http://w3.newsmax.com/a/aftershockb/...MO_CODE=D30F-1

Now, I like it, but this video sounds like an infomercial, and that worries me. He seems to be selling, er giving, away his book for a $5 shipping and handling cost, plus your credit card info.

From what his order website says "You must mail back your form in order to opt out of our magazine subscriptions." Alongside this "sorry we never received your message, so we have to continue to bill you" opt-out BS is the fact he does not give the total cost that your credit card will be billed for the magazine subscriptions.

So, anyone else have thoughts on this? EJ, this guy, and a couple of others wrote the "Popping when the bubble pops" book. EJ and the others seem to have diverged in opinion since then. EJ seems to be darker, more of a turning theory war outlook. This guy just sees a long depression.

Also, anyone have a link to his "free" aftershock "missing chapter." I would like to read that and see if I am less convinced that this is a con.

We are now editing a 1 hour discussion between EJ and Bob Weidemer recorded last week for everyone to listen to next week.

I did not look at video but I can imagine what you are saying. The new Aftershock book has a number of commercials that align with how they promote their investment partner during calls.

I would not pass judgement on Bob Dave Cindy or any of his team. They are some of the most ethical decent people that I have come across in this crazy space. From what i can see, as they started to get close to pub date on second book, they started to lean subscribers more to their investment partner- they make a modest referral fee for every brokerage client. This is just a guess. I would not be surprised if they hired a publicist or marketing genius telling them to go infomercial route prior to second book release. Bottom line- look beneath the surface

Was this interview ever posted? I didn't see it in the specialist interview forum.

I was curious about the conversation because it seems like the Aftershock book pays no regard to many factors (oil) and it takes a less rigorous popular approach to presenting the subject, referring to everything as a bubble (for example, I think EJ's reference to the reserve dollar as the "dollar cartel" is far more illustrative than simply calling it the "dollar bubble"). Anyway, I get the impression there is more under the hood of Aftershock than the book leads on and would like to see the interview.

This was talked about in this thread as well:

          http://www.itulip.com/forums/showthr...e-Doomer-Scale

Getting on the Newmax email list is a guarantee to clog your email.

However, I experienced no issues with the 'free' stuff morphing into not free.

As such I concur that the book as well as newsletter authors vs. the organization using the book as a marketing enticement are not to be confused.

I ordered the Aftershock book with some trepidation because it came with "free" teasers to subscriptions that would renew with charges to my credit card unless I specifically cancelled them. I never like offers like that.

What I got was investment magazines I didn't care for, TONS of spam that kept coming even after being unsubscribed, and a month later still no book. I cancelled everything.

Based on C1ue's recommendation (thanks) many months ago (for free book) , I had subscribed too -- got the free book and newsletters and also had not problems canceling the subscriprions (no new useful info, really) at no cost. Still, my email box gets tons of emails everyday, which I skim from time to time, but at some point I may just just block those emails.

I owe a lot to the Aftershock team. I picked up their original book (America's Bubble Economy) after reading Aftershock and discovered iTulip via the gold chapter (written by EJ).

So I guess that interview between EJ and Weidemer was never released then. If it was recorded in October, I hope it isn't too dated to bother with by now.

                  I read the book:

You can buy it on Amazon for a reasonable price.

It is a great doomer read.
