"Although, the officials quote money laundering as the reason for the new polices, one but wonders if there isn’t more to it."

Sounds like the start of a meme attack against gold ownership exactly the way EJ described, tying it to illegal activity

15000 at a time ... wish I could do that. All that will do is act to dampen down speculation by large bank roll players.

....who haven't got their money out already, yes. Perhaps this is a "tester" to see how people react before enacting their planned measures on a larger scale?

In Canada and America, there is: a.) a war on cash; b.) a war on mobility; c.) a war on privacy; d.) and a war on gold and liquidity in large amounts. In British Columbia, even with (and usually with) a 100% perfect driving record, the Province takes your driving license in case of ill health and denies one the right to use a motor vehicle. Also, in the wake of 9/11 passports are now required to cross the Canadian border and the Mexican border ( regardless of direction of travel ). But if that outrage were not enough, the governments monitor the length of your visit and its purpose--- thus possibly to deny one their right to their Old Age Security entitlement. And in my case in British Columbia, the Provincial Guardian is threatening to cease all my accounts and treat me as a guardian of the province for mental health reasons ( supposedly in my own best interest ) in case I return to my house in B.C.

Oh yes, this is how nazism begins. It is a step-by-step process. The government just does what it pleases, never asking you what you would like.

Shall I discuss coin shops and banks now being monitored by the governments? Shall I discuss hospitals turning you in to the Provincial or State Motor Vehicles Departments in case you might have a loss of consciousness brain seizure--- IN YOUR PRIVATE HOME? Shall I discuss your doctor turning you into the Motor Vehicles Department? Shall I discuss the government choosing your doctor? Shall I discuss what could happen to you if you might be brave enough to file a human rights complaint against your public hospital or your doctor?

          Enough for now.....

One more comment before they throw me back into the looney bin: One or two decades ago, these stinkers in Euro-land would not have dared to pull this nazism about monitoring gold sales because our parents' generation lived through the era of nazism and fascism in Europe. But now that our parents are too old to protest ( or they are deceased ), these stinkers in government try the same thing all over again--- but slowly, step-by-step.

ahh yes - the ugly little head of unintended consequences...
hey - all it will take is another few thousand more pages of lawyer-designed 'laws and regulations' and everything that was fought and died over/for 235years ago will be right in the dumper, with the 'nobility' as dcarrigg puts it, firmly in control

aint it grand, what the liberals utopian 'visions' have bequeathed The Rest of US?
