Well, maybe the tides are slowly changing.
What Bezos did is the same "Game" the eternally corrupt IOC has played for decades, pitting cities against each other to see which will provide them most generous bribes to host each of the Summer and Winter Olympics. Calgary hosted the Winter Games in 1988. A movement arose to do an encore. The City was required to hold a referendum as a condition of securing Provincial funding. The "Yes" side held the advantage - elite support, much official funding, the usual fawning media, and stonewalling when questions such as "Who covers the cost overruns" and "What is the property tax increase going to be?" came up.
The result earlier this week? 56% against, a 13 percent spread. It was hilarious some of the MSM described it as a "narrow victory". It wasn't even close.
Maybe some people are coming to their senses...
