The British banks are now asset stripping, this is VERY good news....it means with in a short time they going to have to repo the under performing home loans......they like to RIP the bastards big time, but rather like that kids game with the marbels & sticks (Ku-plunk) they got to pull out the sticks without all the marbels dropping at once.

Question, how are we going to pay ALL the Buy-to-let people if we don't have any productive capicaty?

      Re: British News

Not just the UK. What I find surprising with these Canadian figures is that 1) this is the growing season so we are importing less food than we do in the winter; and 2) the Canuck Buck [Loonie] is now 5% above par compared to the US Dollar and that should be lowering the cost of the food we do import. Apparently not...

Canadian food prices up 4.8% in June

      (7/22/2011)

      Ian Elliott

Canadian consumers paid 4.8% more for groceries in June than they did a year earlier, Statistics Canada reported on Friday. Food prices were climbing at a more rapid rate in June than a month earlier.

The government reporting agency said the rise in June food prices was “broad-based.”

“Meat prices increased 5.9%, while consumers paid 7.2% more for bakery products with the cost of bread rising 10.1%. Prices for fresh vegetables increased 8.4%,” Statistics Canada said...

Bread, pasta, etc., prices also set to jump about 10% in Japan.

On the other hand, a pot of rice, enough to feed a family of six, is still under $1, and that is premium grade rice. A lesser grade of rice might be half that price. The new rice cookers are just amazing... you cook a pot of rice and it will keep the rice good and hot for 3 days at an electricity cost of about 3 cents per day. So you can pick up okazu (vegetables, tempura, fish, chicken already cooked) for half price on the way home, steam a bunch of vegetables in an antibacterial plastic food keeper with silver in it, and have a decent meal for under $2 per serving, with almost no cooking time. Of course it is better if you cook for yourself, but I sometimes don't have the time. When I do this, I am usually spending only about $5 a day on food... and this is Japan where people gasp at the prices in Kinokuniya. This is how most people who live here actually live... but then we go out and blow the money drinking...
