Agreed - everything I'm reading suggests inflation is shortly due to come roaring back. This genie is out of the bottle! Somebody took the cork out.

"Deflation Mish" will just have to trim his forecasting weathervane sail a bit.

Glacial what the hell are you doing up at five thirty in the morning, eh?

Wishing very much that I didn't have an old dog who needed to water the lawn at 3AM, thus waking me up

Hmm. What with the Arctic shelf and this new nationalization of gold mining, looks like the Russians are indeed expecting all sorts of hilarity with inflation pretty damn soon...

I guess the Putin Portfolio will be split between oil, gas, and gold

Re: Russian government taking over gold-mining sector

Though my insomnia seems to be turning educational (mostly from reading iTulip, natch) -- on the whats-on channel late at night, I've started seeing heavily-rotated ads for "WE'LL BUY YOUR GOLD! JUST MAIL IT IN AND GET CASH! ANYTHING! JEWELRY! COINS! FILLINGS! MAIL IT TO US! NOW!"

This and the Russian move to nationalize the gold mining industry, and the inflationary "liquidity" moves every central bank seems to be moving towards, are making me suspect gold's about to rise pretty significantly, pretty soon.

Guess it's time to liquidate a ton of my "I don't know what the hell I'm doing" GIC and get into a gold ETF...
