Top senators John McCain and John Kerry will accompany a delegation of US business leaders on Friday to Tunisia and Egypt to discuss economic opportunities in the North African countries, McCain's office said.

McCain, a Republican, and Kerry, a Democrat, will visit the two countries with General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt, along with officials from Boeing, Coca-Cola, Bechtel, ExxonMobil, Marriot and Dow, confirmed McCain's office on Wednesday.

On Friday, the delegation planned to meet with current Tunisian Prime Minister Beji Caid Essebsi, and representatives from the business community.

The group will then head to Egypt on Saturday and Sunday, where they will meet Prime Minister Essam Charaf, the head of Egypt's Armed Forces Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawiand, and Egyptian business leaders. They will also visit the Cairo Stock Exchange and a Coca-Cola factory.

    [..]

The visit comes as the two lawmakers join Independent Senator Joe Lieberman in sponsoring a bill to create economic assistance funds for Egypt and Tunisia, both rocked with popular unrest and subsequent regime change in recent months.

Re: Egypt: Beware of Economic Hit Men bearing gifts

Maybe for once, just this once, instead of blaming the Western nations and instead of blaming Israel or blaming America, maybe the Islamic World should accept their own responsibility for the political and economic mess that they find themselves in now? And the same comment might be made about the nations in the rest of Africa (south of the Sahara) as well. It's now well into the 21st C, so the old whine about being exploited by the West is really getting stale and suspect now.

And it isn't like there has been a shortage of resources to develop nor vast amounts of money flowing into Africa and South-west Asia. Quite the opposite has been true, and especially since World War II. Gold and dollars, not to mention talent, effort, and modern technology has been flowing into the Middle East.

And this bull-ship about having so-called, "democratic and Islamic revolutions", what have such revolutions actually been all about? Might I say: revenge, intolerance, war, hangings, hatred, religious bigotry, going backward in time, resentment, terrorism, theft, racketeering, new autocracy, lies, and always the old whine about being victimized by America, Britain, Europe, whites, capitalists, Wall Street. or Israel..... I mean, let's be frank!

Maybe for once, the Islamic World should copy the West? Copy America? Maybe they might welcome and learn from the CEOs now visiting Egypt? ( Gosh, what a radical idea! )

        You never disappoint Steve

        Copy America?
The help to these countries in Africa is so generous I just don't understand why they whine.

I still laugh about how way back when he that shall go un-named insisted "Starving Steve" was a 'liberal'.... Long before Steve went on my permanent ignoramus list.
