Re: Do you know your cars?
Hyundai/Kia is on a serious roll. The Sonata wins most auto mag comparison tests in its category. The Elantra just finished #1 in Motor Trend's compact shootout. The upscale Genesis is also a strong contender. The dealer told me they couldn't keep the Sonata and Elantra in stock they were selling so well. Their newer designs are really good, and the management seems dedicated to growing Hyundai's reputation. Kia's SUVs are selling well too.
These are not the same Hyundai cars of old. They were not even on my radar until a few weeks ago. I've been over that car with a fine tooth comb and I can't find anything that is not perfect on it. Fit and finish is superb for its price. Hell for any price really. Even the base 4cyl engine puts out 200 hp while delivering 35 mpg. And EPA rates it a LARGE car. Thats 1 mpg hwy BETTER than the Accent! To put things in perspective on how far car design has come, the old 1973 Honda Civic used to get 20 mpg.
I'm telling you though. If anyone is shopping for a sport sedan, try out the Sonata turbo. Gobs of mid range torque and cheap( for now). A Limited turbo with nav, sunroof, leather, rear camera, all the bells and whistles still tops out around $27,000!
