    anybody see this: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/wikileaks/
was aired out here last night...

was quite impressed with the unexpected (from frontline) tone of the documentary, as they presented the story for what it is:

"... the biggest intelligence breach in U.S. history -- the leaking of more than a half million classified documents on the WikiLeaks website throughout 2010. At the center of the controversy stands Bradley E. Manning, the Army intelligence analyst who's charged with handing them over..."

and the biggest 'secret' - since was first i've noted this fact = manning is gay and was picked upon in basic training, thus providing the motive

and even more impressed or surprised? (or not) that
"WikiLeaks Is Not Happy with Its Frontline Treatment"

and they truly did spotlight that assange is a megalomaniac, as proved by his dealings with the newyork times and how he threatened them with cutting them out of the deal to publish the story of the criminal document dump by manning

On Tuesday night, PBS-Frontline aired a sweeping documentary on WikiLeaks exploring the role of Bradley Manning in the organization and the controversy surrounding the group's mission. Already, the documentary has divided reviewers, with those sympathetic to WikiLeaks labeling the film a hatchet job and others celebrating it for its depth. WikiLeaks itself has said the program is "hostile and misrepresents WikiLeaks' views" and attempts to build an "espionage" case against founder Julian Assange. Here's a clip of the film followed by reviews.

As one commenter says it could win a Pulitzer.

well they give em to people like krugman too - but some of the COMMENTS on that will likely win _something_

what i thot most bizarre wasnt so much assange decision to 'leak' first to the nytimes, an american newpaper, so that it would be america's own media that brought it to light - but then him objecting aggressively to keller wanting to redact names of 'innocent informers' with assange then deciding they were 'guilty' because they ratted on their own people for the american's benefit - thus assange taking sides in the matter and outing himself as an enemy of The US = why he should be charged/tried for espionage, AFTER they get thru with his trial in sweden... keller also, on frontline, makes a case against assange for being anything more than an arrogant, ego-driven loose cannon, and that keller/nytimes ed board were concerned about people getting killed, release of actionable intel to our enemies, etc - tho frontline as much as credited/congratulated him for the start of the revolt in tunisia which led to egypt, libya etc etc (? not sure of the precise order of events, genl'y this type of stuff isnt my sort of interest, o/w i'd be on some other type of blog than iTulip)

all in all i think frontline did an excellent job with this, as they typically do, but just suprised me that they would focus with such unflattering light on assange & co, with even his partners becoming disillusioned with his 'management style' and voicing such in the documentary.

cant say that i'm a fan of miz goodman, as her entire thing revolves around persecuting bush & co - when she isnt cheerleading for the palestinians = just too bad she doesnt focus more of her effort on The Crime Of The Century that happened while her party/pals controlled all 3 branches of the US gov... which could quite arguably end up affecting far more people, innocent or otherwise, then anything bush and the 'zionist conspiracy' could ever do.

other than that, i dont have much of an opinion on the matter.

        Re: Frontline: wikisecrets

I watched the Frontline this afternoon. What I took away was that, like many things happening, this is a complex issue regarding information and the control of information and who "owns" information. Trying to trivialize this by calling it about "free speech" or "espionage" is the problem for both the government and Wikileaks. This is new frontier stuff.

I've been dissatisfied with the "free speech vs. espionage" polarization of this story since it broke. Thank you for so clearly expressing what I thought but could not put into words.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Wikileaks Story reminds me of Obama's limousine getting hung up on a security ramp in Ireland. We have the "Best in the World" and then a simple "route check" is not performed as it was "assumed" that ..... What were they assuming?

PS: I just read that the ramp is ADJUSTABLE !!!! So the question is "Who wanted to embarrass the President and his Security?", unless the sleepy guards at the embassy forgot they have to readjust the angle of the ramp for the President. Very Interesting !!!
