The Sunday night attack on a naval base in the port city of Karachi is one of the worst attacks in the insurgency-hit country as the heavily-armed militants attacked the forces' assets. Officials said that the militants fired rocket propelled grenades to damage and destroy several warplanes. These included the Pakistan navy's premier anti-submarine attack jet, the U.S. made P- 3C Orion.
Interior Minister Rahman Malik said that the attack is aimed at appeasing the enemy as the attackers targeted navy assets.

Pakistan asks Beijing to help build naval base
ISLAMABAD - PAKISTAN wants China to build a naval base at a deep-sea port in southwestern Baluchistan province, its defence minister said Sunday, while also inferring that Washington was a fair weather friend.
Ahmad Mukhtar, who accompanied Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during a recent visit to China, said the request was made during the trip, when Pakistan thanked Beijing for constructing Gwader Port, on the Arabian Sea.
"However, we would be more grateful to the Chinese government if a naval base was being constructed at the site of Gwader for Pakistan," Mukhtar said in a statement.

In addition to managing our perceptions, much is simply never reported. On May 19, 2011, the fourteen-decade-old British newspaper, The Statesman, reported that the Press Trust of India has reported that the Chinese government has warned Washington “in unequivocal terms that any attack on Pakistan would be construed as an attack on China,” and advised the US government “to respect Pakistan’s sovereignty.”
