A small amount of gasoline is added to the ethanol in order to make it undrinkable. All ethanol used as a fuel must be made nonpotable.

THE ETHANOL SUBSIDIES ARE ENCOURAGING THE CONVERSION OF OUR RAPIDLY DEPLETING TOPSOIL RESOURCES TO 'SAVE' MAYBE A COUPLE % OF OIL IMPORTS

is, in a word: INSANITY, since when the topsoil is gone (some estimates suggest upwards of 90% already)
we wont be able to feed ourselves and dunno about you, but i'd rather take the bus than trade food for gasoline.

Also, burning the food doesn't seem so smart at face value.
