  • Ray Dalio profile in New York Magazine

    http://nymag.com/news/business/walls...-dalio-2011-4/

Some interesting excerpts (far too long to post)

Dalio’s Principles, acolytes say, allow the firm’s researchers and traders to sidestep office politics and ego-stroking and focus on what really matters: beating the markets.

    ...

Even more than its peers, it cultivates a paranoia in its ranks, monitoring e-mails and phone calls and keeping tabs on employees via a network of overhead cameras.

    ...

But nobody is accusing Dalio of misconduct, and Bridgewater’s reputation among institutional investors is spotless—a recent survey by analytics firm Preqin ranked the firm as the global favorite of public-pension funds.

    ...

In 2006, Bridgewater’s computers began to indicate that the American economy seemed to be heading for what Dalio calls a “D-process,” a sort of national bankruptcy proceeding in which debt-service payments rise relative to incomes until, under the threat of default, the government is forced to print tons of money and buy up long-term assets.

Ahhh - Bridgewater - the most boring way that I have ever heard of someone getting PTSD.

Well, maybe not as boring as Amway...more from glassdoor

Anyways, the last excerpt that C1ue posted was the one to look at.

A good read. Mr. Dalio has a sense of humor, as well as an understanding of ego.

Last month, a slightly tweaked version of Principles appeared on Bridgewater’s website. The document’s revised title: Principles (That Might Be Right or Wrong, for You to Take or Leave)

dalio is a very smart and insightful guy. barron's interviews him about every 2 years, and i always pay attention to what he has to say. i don't know how i'd feel about working for him, but i don't work for him. [of course, neither do the commenters at the dealbreaker link.]

A tremendous opportunity to learn things about yourself working in that environment. I'm always greatful when someone or something can shake me up.

I dug pretty deep at one point (had reason) to see what current/former employees had to say about the environment - it was also in line with that article
