You'd think that Manufactured Homes might do a turnaround though.

one wonders how much of the die-off has occured in just the past few years, like since/after 2007
(since mfd'd houses, aka trailers, are likely to make a comeback, wouldnt ya think?)

Those are industries currently rising. Here are two industries that will boom in the future:
            1. Pitchforks
            2. Torches

I was thinking how many poorer people got out of "trailers" and into traditional homes (that they subsequently lost) during the bubble runup, thus causing a hurt on that industry, but will have to return to the cheapest of the cheap housing- "trailers" and perhaps even used RVs. Also the nouveau poor, who maybe didn't live in trailers before, but now will have to due to chronic unemployment problems or retirements that didn't work out the way they thought.

methinks a return of the fixit-class of repair-persons for just about everything that has solid construction and durable materials (hint: is sure as hell aint gonna be much of nuthin 'lektronic, as most of the crap (being polite) is not only genl'y USELESS, but is made specifically to be obsolete as soon as you take it out of the box it comes in!)
think older cars (pre-mid-90's at the latest), appliances that arent all 'dooded up with fancy bells-n-whistles (lektronic crap that _reduces_ mfg'g costs, but RAISES selling prices)

in short, most anything that was NOT made/sold since appx 1995 or so....

LargoWinch pointed me to that fabulous post in '06 by Krowne that points to this timeframe as The Beginning of The End of US prosperity, which not coincidently also was when the Age of Consumer/throwaway JUNK seemed to have occurred?
(tho i'm sure every decade of the past 5 has its fans...)

gotta git- off to my therapy session on the 4pack-detachable at wildcat, where from what eye can see, the wx is purrrrrrfect - before the impending 'doom'
thats fixin to launch in nor'easterly direction:

I'm not so sure how much more "affordable" manufactured homes are when you consider things like resale value, financing, etc. Around here, you can pick up a nice 1000 sq ft house in good shape very cheap. What does a new single wide go for these days?

4 of those were killed by the internet. an additional 2 by digital media, which has seen its popularity rise due to the internet, and the software that is available to manipulate such media, which is distributed cheaply on the internet.

"Killed" is a harsh word. I think "supplanted" is a much better one in this case. Technophobists are on high alert.

I would say that a 75% (hell even a 50%) decline in revenue is definitely a kill. Fine, a decline of 35% may not be a kill - it's more like, shot in the johnson.
