  • A snapshot of the middle class squeeze: UK edition

    http://www.annuity-rates.org/over-55...2-months-2035/

Over 55’s in the UK have endured a tough 12 months according to data gathered from Aviva. Of the people they questioned in this age group, average incomes fell by 4%, while inflation in the economy has remained high, well above the governments own target of 2%. Whilst younger workers can sometimes take measures to mitigate against falling income, such as working overtime, over 55’s and particularly retirees are more often than not on fixed incomes.

As well as falling income levels, mortgage debt has increased by £10,000, with the number of homes with saving pots of less than £500 increasing from 21% to 31%. Rising prices mean that more people are having to spend more of their income on necessities such as food and petrol. Food prices have in fact risen by a whopping 5.88% from February 2010 to February 2011 according to the report, which has lead many over 55’s to cut back on the amount of food they buy. There is also very little incentive to save either, as interest rates have remained very low, with the Bank of England base rate being just 0.5%.
Isn't that interesting? mortgage debt for the over 55 increased by 10,000 pounds on average! Hopefully that's due to a large percent buying new homes...not

Just at the Bank of England's website and reading their double-talk about Quantitative Easing, as if this were a new concept and we were all kindergarteners. It is as if the hard lessons of the stagflation of the 1970s were lost on central bankers. The old people know far more about what QE is all about and where it leads to.

I could never live in the UK; not with the rents, the house prices, the high density planning, the de-monetizations of currency and coin, the speed traps, the love-in with Islamists, the layers of government, the taxation, the anthropogenic global warming hoax, BBC News, and the other insanity..... Terrible!

      Steve
I was working outside on the house today (not much work in you understand) & a flat back car recovery truck turned into the back of the housing estate. 10 mins later it returned with a Audi TT (3 year old) & a Merc on it. Both i guess lease hired & both now recovered.

I know the house they came from & i drove pass that way this afternoon..........Yep, gone & a crappy 16 year Nissan up the driveway. To date i seen this a few times with the local assh*les saying bye bye to their fast BMW/Evo etc.......the Bloodbath is just starting ;)

      Meantime:-

Is that a serious article? Overtime is no longer compensated for in most sectors of the UK economy. In fact, the last job I had which paid overtime was when I was a teenager more than 15 years ago.
