  • Anonymous going after the Bernank

    via ZH (includes Video):
"The world's most (in)famous hacker group - Anonymous - known for recently discrediting HBGary, advocating the cause of Wikileaks, and the threat made by one of its members that evidence of fraud by Bank of America will be released on Monday, has just launched communication #1 in its Operation "Empire State Rebellion." The goal - engage in "a relentless campaign of non-violent, peaceful, civil disobedience" until Ben Bernanke steps down and the "Primary Dealers within the Federal Reserve banking system be broken up and held accountable for rigging markets and destroying the global economy effective immediately."

David DeGraw's website was crashed repeatedly. The alternative ran a couple thousand a month. Anonymous is providing the dough. DeGraw says it's both great and scary. As in who the hell are these guys?

      The Anonymous manifesto:
      • We are a decentralized non-violent resistance movement, which seeks to restore the rule of law and fight back against the organized criminal class.
      • One-tenth of one percent of the population has consolidated wealth in unprecedented fashion and launched an all-out economic war against 99.9% of the population.
      • We are not affiliated with either wing of the two-party oligarchy. We seek an end to the corrupted two-party system by ending the campaign finance and lobbying racket.
      • Above all, we aim to break up the global banking cartel centered at the Federal Reserve, International Monetary Fund, Bank of International Settlement and World Bank.
      • We demand that the primary dealers within the Federal Reserve banking system be broken up and held accountable for rigging markets and destroying the global economy, effective immediately.
      • As a first sign of good faith we demand Ben Bernanke step down as Federal Reserve chairman.
      • Until our demands are met and a rule of law is restored, we will engage in a relentless campaign of non-violent, peaceful, civil disobedience.
      • In our next communication we will announce Operation Empire State Rebellion.

This doesn't sound, smell, or taste like anonymous. It's ampedstatus - David DeGraw - an antibankster writer. He has been hit with DoS before - we shall see what, if anything, this stunt gets him. He's doing the internet equivalent of playing with fire.

        http://www.whois.net/whois/ampedstatus.org...he's not very anonymous.

Anonymous will generally fight for internet freedom / freedom of speech. I'd doubt you could get a philosophically heterogeneous group like them all agreeing to demand that Bernanke steps down...unless somehow someone made a good shopped photo...and everyone thought it would be really funny...and there wasn't much else going on that month...

        That being said, expect them.

It's kinda like fight club, you're not really meant to talk about it.

Do your own research, (but preferrably from home on your own computer) and just understand that Anon probably has some views you like, and some that you find quite disgusting.

Re: Anonymous going after the Bernank

Coincidentally read this thread then opened new Vanity Fair (a dear friend works there so I've a mandatory subscription-- otherwise Vanity Fair is not my fare, just to qualify).

Seems Anonymous was "unwittingly spawned" here http://www.4chan.org/

              V.F. article here http://www.vanityfair.com/business/f...4/4chan-201104

Now just imagine how effective online civil disobEdience as protest against the Vietnam War instead of in person on campus would have been. Perhaps civil disobedience only matters when it is not quite so civil. Though, at least the National Guard probably won't shoot you in a chat room.

If the topic of Anonymous and 4chan interests you, rather than reading some vanity fair article, do your own research.

Just remember, 4chan.org is not work friendly, is not tasteful and because anyone can post anonymously there is gore, cp, and other unwanted stuff.

4chan can be a bit shocking, check out http://anonnews.org or even better the IRC channel http://irc.lc/AnonOps/OpNewBlood. Live people there ready to help.
