    how many loans were washed, rinsed, repeat into multiple MBS? A question the Times avoids by omission . . . .

    One of the fascinating things about MERS is how some Mortgage lenders transfer the Deed of trust to MERS system, a month or two before it is auctioned off at a foreclosure sale.

    This simple act I believe is put into practice to help muddy the water.

      Like the celluloid cowboy who drags brush behind his horse to obscure his trail . . . leaving a freshly cleared path through the dirt for his pursuers (how did Mel Brooks miss this one )

        This is actually a reflection of the disarray in mortgage operations - the assignment to MERS should have been recorded shortly after or concurrently with the recording of the mortgage. Recording at the time of foreclosure is their attempt at "perfecting" title.
