Re: The World Lost a Great Soul Today

A quote from one of my favorite tv shows:

"The universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice. The language is not Narn or Human or Centauri or Gaim or Minbari. It speaks in the language of hope. It speaks in the language of trust. It speaks in the language of strength and the language of compassion. It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul. But always it is the same voice. It is the voice of our ancestors speaking through us and the voice of our inheritors waiting to be born. The small, still voice that says: 'We are one. No matter the blood, no matter the skin, no matter the world, no matter the star. .. We are one. No matter the pain, no matter the darkness, no matter the loss, no matter the fear. .. We are one.' Here, gathered together in common cause, we begin to realize this singular truth and this singular rule that we must be kind to one another. Because each voice enriches us and ennobles us and each voice lost diminishes us. We are the voice of the universe, the soul of creation, the fire that will light our way to a better future. We are one."

I am sorry the voice that was your husband and friend was lost to us. My heartfelt condolences.

          Shiny,

My deepest condolences for your sad loss. He must have been a tower of strength, not just to you, but to everyone he came into contact with. Perhaps it will help to tell you that, from a very young age, we men are taught that every successful man has at his side a successful woman. You should take strength from that thought and remember he picked you as his partner because you were, and remain, his equal.

          Chris.

Though your husband has passed away, from what you write about him, his legacy of making a difference in so many peoples' lives will be everlasting. His footprint on this earth will not fade away.

I hope you find strength in the people that are near and dear to you. Our true wealth is in the community we belong to - our closest friends and family. At the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

One of my favorite quotes: “The deep pain that is felt at the death of every friendly soul arises from the feeling that there is in every individual something which is inexpressible, peculiar to him alone, and is, therefore, absolutely and irretrievably lost. “ Please accept my sincere condolences.

                          Madame,

My deepest condolences for your loss.

Nothing can replace the one whom you had committed your life with.

The greatest tribute to one's life is how they are remembered by those who survive.

Your husband, even in a public newspaper no doubt filled with all manner of gruesome modern tales of the macabre, nonetheless clearly came across as a man who contributed much to the community he lived in, and will be missed.

                              shiny!,

There is nothing I can say that will erase your pain.

All I can do is pray for you, and for the repose of your much beloved husband.
I will place his name upon the altar this Sunday in the prayers for the departed,
and your name in the prayers for the living.

My wife is a schoolteacher who taught Special Ed for twelve years before teaching
regular ed. It does takes a VERY special person to work with "special" children.

It appears that your husband was a very special man, indeed.

Re: The World Lost a Great Soul Today

Thank you so much Raz. Please give my regards to your wife. And everybody else, thank you for your kind thoughts. I know your prayers are helping. Something is holding me up and keeping me going and it isn't me, because my physical strength ran out days ago.

His body was cremated today in Tucson. As soon as I heard it was going on I pretty much lost it. At that very moment, before I could even hang up the phone, a very pious, orthodox Jewish friend knocked at my door to see how I was doing. He had had a sudden change of plans that brought him to my neighborhood, and just decided at the last minute to check on me. I invited him in and told him my husband was being cremated, and asked him to pray with me. Sikh and Jew, we prayed together.

This evening I went to his school for their monthly Family Dinner Night. They had a memorial for him. Many students and staff talked about how much he meant to them.

One story I really liked: A teacher had told Sat Guru Singh that he'd been diagnosed with diabetes. From then on, every month he would find a bag of sugar-free jelly beans in his mailbox that Sat Guru Singh had put there.

Even older high school kids who were no longer his students showed up and talked about how he taught them to read, how incredibly patient he was, and how much it meant to them that he believed in them. Some called him their best friend; one boy said he had been like a father to him.

They let me talk and I tried to tell them all the things I think he would have wanted to tell them, if he had had the chance.

Here's a picture I really like, from when his son graduated from medical school. I don't know how to make it full size, but it gets bigger if you click on it:

I'm pretty exhausted now but I just wanted to say thanks to all of you again.
