Re: The World Lost a Great Soul Today

I took some time to skim back through posts you have made here. It's quite a contribution of measured responses, many referencing teaching and your husband. So sorry.

Thank you, Thailandnotes. Writers are told to "write about the things you know". I love iTulip because of all the brilliant and wonderful people here who teach me about economics and so much more. My knowledge of economics is miniscule so I cannot contribute much in that way. Whenever the topic of education came up I felt like I might be able to contribute something.

          Update:

Because of the nature of his death, the police are doing a criminal investigation to submit to the County Attorney. He may then (I hope) decide to prosecute the second driver. Criminal investigations mean they have to do an autopsy, which will happen later today. I need to start shopping for a lawyer.

I'm getting support from the most unexpected places. People I don't even know are bringing me food and cards and offering their help. Our accountant just told me not to bother with sorting out all the income tax stuff, but to just bring it to her. She's going to do our tax returns, including my final business return, for no charge this year.

My husband wanted his body donated to science. The donation service told me that autopsies usually disqualify bodies for donation. I was pretty stressed out wondering how I'd pay for the cremation. Then they called me back a few hours later. The man told me they had had a meeting and decided that if it turns out that his body is not eligible for donation, they want to cover the costs of the cremation for me anyway. Their incredible kindness made me cry. Hell, everything is making me cry lately.

My stepson, who I love as my own, and his wonderful wife are driving in from Sacramento and will be here this evening. They're my only family now. My husband and I had planned to go out to dinner tonight because today is my birthday. Obviously things have changed, so tonight the three of us are going to go to his favorite restaurant.

Thank you all again for your kindness and concern.

                Amrita,

I am so sorry for your loss. It is very rare that someone gives of himself every day ... and it sounds like he did that and more in his work, family life and generosity towards even strangers. You have friends here and a virtual family too. Please take care.

So sad. I hope I am not being insensitive to observe here the manner reported of your loved one's passing in that acknowlegement of circumstances can confuse on first sight yet maybe one day smooth transition towards eventual acceptance. How could your lover have been taken so suddenly by accident, yet how could an immediately subsequent accident have assured your loss? It is almost as if the second vehicle transmuted accident to fate, making the senseless almost make sense.

May you one day find some reprieve from your pain.

                                Another Update

The medical examiner did the autopsy this afternoon and determined that he died instantly. He did not suffer. It was his time to go home and God took him as quickly and painlessly as possible.

A friend drove me to the salvage yard to get his keys and some personal items that had been collected from the road: his riding gloves, lunchbag, a mystery novel, tools and his Nitnem, his prayer book. He never travelled without his Nitnem...

My son will be here in a few hours and some dear friends are arriving tomorrow. Someone just brought me homemade cinnamon rolls.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you.
