  • The World Lost a Great Soul Today

I wanted to let my friends here at iTulip know that I lost my husband today. He was killed while driving to work, by a man who couldn't bother to slow down at the scene of an accident.

I've mentioned my husband many times here when discussing education. He had overcome physical handicaps and learning disabilities to become a Special Ed. teacher who touched the lives of many people over the course of his career. He was a second-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate and a crack shot. He could build a house from the ground up and did all our home repairs. He was also a universal blood donor who was working on his 20th gallon of blood. His blood was so good that they could, and did, give it whole to premature infants.

He remembered every corny joke he'd ever heard, cracked bad puns, and made friends everywhere he went. I can't count all the times he was late getting home because he stopped to help someone with a flat tire or a battery jump. When homeless people asked him for money, he never gave it to them because he didn't want them to buy alcohol with it. He would buy them a meal instead. I'm so proud of him and feel so blessed to have had a chance to know him. I wish you all could have known him, too.

I hope it's not inappropriate to mention this here in the News section. I figure it's news because it's been all over the news here in the Valley today. Fred, please move or delete this if you think necessary. I won't mind.

I'm really sorry to hear that.

My heartfelt condolences on your loss. He sounds like a great man - concerned for the well being of others - and made a big contribution to other people's lives.

My best wishes for you at this difficult time.

shiny!: Many of us here might find it awkward to formulate an appropriate response to your heartfelt post...and I cannot say that I am an exception. You have written a beautiful eulogy to a much loved husband. I pray that in your grief you will find solace that he lived his mortal life in accordance with the tenets of the Guru Granth Sahib, and understood better than most of us the true meaning of kirat karo and dasvandh.

Thank you bagginz for the kind thoughts.

GRG55... thank you so much. Your words bring me great comfort.. more than I can ever express. He was indeed a humble Gursikh and it makes me happy that you understand that.

I must get some rest now.

Very sorry to hear of your loss shiny!.

A wise man once told me that if you can honestly say that you have made the world a better place, in however small a way, then your life has been worthwhile. Your husband clearly exceeded that criterion by a very long shot.

Condolences to you and your family.

Having privately shared a few emails, I simply burst into tears and cried, I will visit you soon in AZ from OZ. I am so sorry for your loss. Just know that we are the same age and the same mind so you are not alone.

Indeed, a great soul lost. I am very sorry to hear of his death. With on line acquantenships such as ours, it is hard to fully express heartfelt emotion. Your husbands greatness and kindness shine though the cyber fog. As a teacher, I trust his greatness will be a inspiration for his students and friends for many generations to come.

I lost my first wife of 46 years almost 5 years ago. I was blessed by the Lord to have been led to my wonderful new wife shortly after. I pray that your life will be blessed by what you need for comfort and peace.

                              Shiny,
Although I would likely never have met you or your husband, I sense we are all diminished by his loss. We are all blessed indeed to have such persons among us.
May God welcome him into His Kingdom.
