Replace those chinese faces with western/american/european/white faces and all we would here about is colonialism, campus protests, calls for 'democracy and freedom', george clooney and another one of his charlatan foundations, and the media lamenting the human rights abuses that are being perpetrated in africa. Double standard? no?

Yes, in that case it would be called "progress".

I had watched most of the series; it was well put together and thought provoking. It reminded me of something I was told by a secretary that was doing some typing for me at the time, (before we carried lap tops), when I first travelled to San Francisco in the 1980's. "The Chinese are good landlords; they don't gouge".

The Chinese are hard working, friendly, and have, not for the first time in history, set out to trade with the rest of the planet. But this time, they are in control of their own destiny. We need to get used to it, just as, some decades ago; we had the same problem here in the UK. What was the phrase? "Over paid, over sexed and over here"....... US Marines....

The Chinese only form a little over 10% of the people of South East Asian countries of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Burma, but control 90% of their economies.

If you are fine that you are economically controlled by the Chinese, then the relationship is ok. The Chinese are only after profits, they don't care what religion you pray to, what are your customs - they won't even be bothered if you are cannibals in your village as long as you don't eat your co-worker.
