Egypt is a big deal because:

    1) Suez canal: huge amount of everything flows through there. Pipelines nearby as well.

    2) Big population. Egypt has 83M people. Compare with Iran (73M), Iraq (34.5M), Israel (7.4M), Saudi Arabia (25.5M), Afghanistan (30M), Pakistan (170M).

Egypt going anti-US, or even neutral, means a 2nd, larger Iran.

If the past has anything to teach; it is that using behind the scenes manipulation might work over the short term, but that age old saying stands. You can fool some of the people some of the time. You can fool most of the people most of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

IMHO the United States is on the back foot precisely because they have placed way too much reliance on "secret armies" and nothing like enough on open dialogue about true freedom. The wheel has turned full circle.
I agree with you in theory, but I don't think we're there yet. If blackops and "secret armies" weren't working in Egypt, there would be no discussion of an "orderly transition" from America's leaders; Clinton would be calling the protesters "insurgents" and terrorists.

The end result of this for the US may be decreased influence in the region. It may be a puppet regime that lasts another 30 years. It's going to be quite some time until we know, and it's way too early to rule out the puppet replacement.

In any case, I don't think "peace" is a goal of any of our leaders. Or yours. Or theirs. (whoever they are)

Isn't a part of this related to recent elections there?

Didn't we just go through this in Iran?

There's something about social media/communications through mobile devices and apps that seems to permit a tipping point that leads to this sort of reaction amongst the disaffected youth in these countries who use such means to communicate.

Now if you tell me that the software nerds who write these apps are all CIA spooks, then I think you've got a point.
