Re: Mortgage Rates- Confounding the Sheeple

To the earlier post re. Moving to Texas, property tax is high but there is no state income tax. If you are looking at high end property but low taxable income, Texas is not ideal...but in my experience it still beats everywhere else!

Also, as I just posted in another reply, you also need to include the property taxes paid, as you can deduct them when you itemize.
Shakes: from the info you presented, is part of your conclusion that the mortgage interest deduction is solely a buyer's benefit and in no way raised the price on housing, unlike the recent tax credit incentive?

``“Insiders are basically special interests: small in number but well organized and with specific goals. Outsiders, or the “unorganized masses,” are the rest of us: we have some interests, but we are poorly organized to pursue them and therefore are generally unsuccessful. In particular, Outsiders suffer from poor and limited information, and therefore are especially susceptible to political symbols.”... “Given these differences, the Insiders use overt political dramas as symbols that placate the masses while using covert political activity to plunder them. What we would now call rent-seeking succeeds because Outsiders are dazzled by the symbols while Insiders grab the substance.”''

All things being equal, it undoubtedly does promote higher housing prices.
