  • Jeff Greenwald Rallying Journalist (Assange and Wikileaks)

Glenn Greenwald of Slate is going after this story with gusto, updating stories several times a day. His prediction yesterday that the US will go after Assange is confirmed by
    Headlines in the NYT…

Greenwald’s article yesterday. (The updates at the bottom are interesting.),,,

And today his description of Manning’s detention…

Swedish prosecutor’s insistence that he be extradited as opposed to interviewing him in London seems highly suspect given that he has not been charged.

This is very upsetting. Manning's treatment (and Assange's) reminds me of what has been done to Martin Armstrong. I hope that Manning understands and derives strength from the fact that the only reason he's being treated like this, without even a trial, is because his actions hit the nail on the head. If he had been ineffective they wouldn't be trying so hard to break him and use him as an example to deter other whistleblowers.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

The sad thing is that when he is eventually released he will have all sorts of social issues. His inevitable legal problems will lead many to conclude that he should be imprisoned without ever considering that it was prison that made him that way. The govenrment will point to the monster they created and trumpet their wisdom in protecting us from it.

Fascinating read on the long-term effects of isolation.

Yes. Glenn with 2 n's. Jeff Greenwald wrote "Shopping for Bhuddas," which I highly recommend. (fairly light travel.) Never mind, but here was

Glenn Greenwald on Salon again today...
