Re: Class War! Bought to you by SF Green Mayor...

If the pot-head generation ( my generation ) would have built massive hydro-electric dams in the Sierras, then there would have been cheap water coming-out of water-taps in San Francisco. Somehow, clean and cheap and abundant water for people, not to mention: cheap electric power for people to enjoy was considered "wasteful" and not "a green solution". Atomic-power was not considered "a green solution", so no new atomic power plants were built...... So, is it any surprise that the new problem is poverty and people sleeping outside because they can not afford the rents and cost of living in SF? Then add to this poverty problem, the city planners preserving the so-called, "rare and endangered" SF County field-mouse.

And in British Columbia, it is the same approach: habitat-preservation by government planners for salmon and birds, and people are left to starve. So, Victoria and Vancouver have been gentrified, just like San Francisco.

Hetch-Hetchy was built about 100 years ago. Sadly, there has not been much built since Governor Pat Brown, left office in Sacramento. Pat Brown, Jerry Brown's father, left office in the 1960s, and that was about when progress in California on anything meaningful stopped. The last dam was the San Luis Reservoir which was finished about 1968 or so.

Two landmark books which sadly were WRONG but changed public opinion in the 1960's were: Rachel Carlson's, Silent Spring, and the other book was The Destruction of California by Raymond F. Dasmann.
