"linode" refers to the web server linode.com (as was noted in my original reference to it, to which Munger was responding.)

As for +1, is that +1 out of +10? What does this +1 babble mean?

It's a form of agreement -- as if adding 1 point to the value of a preceding post. Some web forums actually have a point system by which one can provide feedback on the value you find in the posts of others.

I like language CLEAR and CRISP. ... Just give me plain English or plain Spanish.

In sports, +1 is a really poor rating because it means 1 out of 10. But your +1 is a feedback on the internet, apparently for posts. So I would again file +1 as techno-babble.

In the book, 1984, the author (George Orwell) referred to a whole new-language that would appear by the year 1984, and the language would be called, "Newspeak". So this new language that I am finding on the internet now is what I would take to be, Newspeak.

This is scary stuff. And to reflect that 1984 was 26 years ago!

And we have several new languages being used now: Fed-speak, Greenspanese, eco-babble, techno-babble, pot-head babble, among others. Truly scary!

Even in this post, I tried to type the book-title, 1984, to be in set-off in italics. But apparently, italics no-longer exists in your Newspeak...... The italics command on your window here doesn't function, so apparently italics is too old-fashioned for techno-babble. Hence, Newspeak began to evolve on the internet.

What's next? You drop hyphens. You jam words together. You jam ideas together. You invent new words. Jargon becomes real language. Techo-babble evolves into Newspeak.

In schools, I am finding students to-day who can not think. They can not write. They can not read. They don't communicate in any world language.............. Interesting and scary stuff!

Back to the thread, I want what is called, "an economical theory" that explains all of 9/11. I do NOT want pot-head explanations nor space-aliens arriving in the reasoning. I want a CRISP AND ECONOMICAL THEORY to explain all of 9/11, plus the world that we find ourselves living-in to-day.

So far, I take Washington's explanation as valid. I don't like the government in Washington, DC, but I have no other explanation that seems valid for the world and its history.

In Canada, I trust the RCMP. I trust the democratically-elected government in Ottawa.

Trust me: The Holocaust happened. We have the names, the deaths, the death-camps, the films, the witnesses, my own family, Yad Vashem, etc. WWII ended in 1945. Mankind landed on the Moon in 1969. Commercial jets were hyjacked and flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City on September 11th of 2001. We are at war with the Islamists. The worst of the worst of the world's garbage are running the Govn't of Iran to-day, and we are not winning this war. This is a war for our survival..... This is reality.

Presently I just use thepythoniccow.us website to hold images that I can link to from here.

But it doesn't cost me much either -- just a 9 line config file in the /etc/nginx/sites-enabled directory of my web server and the $8/year rent for the domain name.

... a cow in a bathtub full of gold coins ... wearing a tin foil hat ... if I were a Photoshop Phreak I'd conjure me up one of those ... good idea.

However, I like your references here. Right now, I am punishing my 13 year old daughter for a moment of bad judgement. Now there is a girl who is a perfect example of Newspeak. From her 2-headed PC & iPhone - she speaks Internet-lingo, is in French Immersion School scoring in the 90s, has taught herself the basics of Japanese, Korean, some Mandarin, and is an expert in PowerPoint and CS4.

Her punishment is to read 2 books. The first is "Animal Farm" which is almost finished. The 2nd is "1984". She has until the New Year to do a report on them to her "Parental Units" & her 19 year old sister. She must get a minimum score to earn her privileges around the house back.

Now that's punishment

Thanks. After 25 years of marriage and 20 years of child raising you learn a few things. ;-)

To put the Newspeak comment in further perspective ... I said something "deep" at the dinner table to her the other night. Her sister laughed, and Mom thought she wouldn't understand it's meaning. She cut Mom off and said "I get it Mom. I speak Dad." We all burst out laughing.

The same government who, after elected can't maintain the confidence of the house, so then go to the governor general to prorogue parliament. All the while claiming that a coalition government made up of the NDP and Liberals would be a violation of democracy, yet they (the Conservatives) make their own alliance with the Liberals (what did they promise/give up?) to maintain power. And perhaps least democratic of all... a Conservative government whose leader (if he was unsuccessful in seeking prorogue of parliament) had planned to go directly to the Queen of England to attempt to undermine what would have been a legal and democratic change of control within government.

Dang -- it looks like they have backed away from a distributed mesh top level such as I described in Post #21, above.

Rather they are going with a traditional centralized authority (CA) for the dot-p2p top level domain (TLD) -- just not ICANN.

I think I just lost interest in this project.
