You can not imagine the fury building in Ireland at the moment and it will get worse much worse, the failure to abstract and project by people in their apathy, a media in full propaganda mode and a utterly corrupt government, has meant the train has hit full on, without an efffort to get out of the way - I despair because I believe the fury will be chanelled in the most destructive of ways.

Well put, and in looking at apathetic people, media in propaganda mode, and corrupt government, I can't help but see the same train roaring down the tracks in the U.S. of A.

Anyone have any perspective on whether individually directed brokerage account IRA's will be more protected in the US?

The first target is going to be Social Security.

Besides, the banksters already have your IRA...

            Sadly, it's true.
The only big river of money in the US that does not already flow through wall street is FICA tax receipts.

i posted a piece from bloomberg, this morning, re DEMOCRATS suggesting - essentially- means testing social security. i've been waiting for that for years [not that it's happened yet, but it will].

From my own selfish perspective, they can have Social Security. I never expected a dime from it anyway. If my IRA is in trouble is another thing altogether...

But cashing out and going 100% FDR's and PM's would make me feel a little too much like Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver. Not that it isn't the right thing to do necessarily. And I guess if the government gets totally insane they could start proposing an IRA cashout clawback scheme.

i'm sure your ira is generating fees for some fire institution, so it's less likely to be touched.

Two are in self directed brokerage accounts, in which I bought GTU/CEF once each. I also used one of my allocated free trades for the initial purchase. The only people getting "rich" off my account are at GTU. The active account from my present employer is altogether different. I am limited to managed funds. Granted they are gold based (and mostly miners, yuck) and doing better than anything else, but still as you point out, they are helping make someone else money. Thanks for the insight there, and the marginally higher bit of protection being aligned with FIRE might bring. I had forgot that bit o'knowledge from a prior thread.
