I continue to hope they might figure out that FIRE is the enemy (no sign of that yet)
    Absolutely right.

I have a Tea Party friend of the past 45 years living in Georgia who understands almost everything except the extent of the Fed's culpability and/with FIRE.

She used to think I was joining the Lefties for bashing the Empire, but she's beginning to understand that part, and no longer thinks Ron Paul is a kook.

Give them time and they'll likely figure that out - except for the ones who really are dumb, and think that the Left is completely wrong about everything.

      LOL! Raz the Leftie!
I have a few tea party friends of the same description. I refer to them as my formerly-sane friends.
There is a very real chance these good citizens will come to a better understanding and their passionate work will push in a useful direction.

My thinking and why I posted the piece was along the same lines as Taibbi.

What was interesting to me about the article was the sense of powerlessness people feel. I loved the part about how people feel they can broadcast to the world but they can't figure out how makes so much of the world works. The lack of "handiness." And how this frustration finds an outlet in these campaigns.

What Taibbi has shown clearly - though no different than for the Left/Obama faithful - is that the Tea Party is rooted in contradiction.

Tea Party: Small government, no deficits, big Defense+Medicare+Social Security, healthy economy
Left/Obama Faithful: Big government, big deficits, big Defense+Medicare+Social Security, healthy economy

        Both sides are equally wrong.

So long as the collective American voter continues to want their pie and eat it too, we ain't getting out of this mess.

Some of my Tea Party enthusiasts lean (already) to a military strongman solution. Amazing.

I have the same take on it Raz. Most Tea Party-ers don't have a good grasp on what is really going on. They do correctly understand however that something is seriously wrong, and that the current government can't "fix" it, because they are a big part of the problem. They also fail to see the concept of "American Empire". They really believe what they are fed about "national defense". My take on it is this. Does it really matter if the Tea Party "gets it" as long as they help bring about removal of the old Guard? I think financial pressures alone will take care of the Empire builders. At least I hope so. To borrow from the song, In politics, you rarely can get what you want, but you can get what you need. I'm afraid for now the Tea Party is about as close as we can get to a "revolution". The Tea party will evolve. A third party is in our future. What it will be is anyone's guess.

Yup, and the real one will start when the people that voted for them figure out they get corrupted al the same too. Like the thread about Obama from a while ago...the purpose of the TP and Obama's cult of personality is to show the voters that the system won't be changed by electing someone.

WRT the waking populace: I was delighted to hear a coworker (blue collar type) say in the break room that "the reals problems all started in 1913" and he's more the type to read the local paper about where to hunt vs. the WJ.
