  • Next Gold Bull Upleg Starting?

To the delight of gold investors, gold and gold shares seem to tackle their next leg up. It is sometimes argued that bull market uplegs are preceded by a period in which gold stocks are leading gold. There are several methods to investigate the relationship between gold stocks and gold. A simple approach is to look at the correlation between daily changes in the gold price and daily changes in the HUI (see the below figure).

The two recent uplegs (starting in spring 2003 and winter 2005/06, respectively) were both heralded by a significant fall of the correlation between gold and the HUI, meaning that the HUI was decoupling from gold. Starting in July 2007, the correlation has again been falling over a cliff and is currently almost at the lows observed during the start of the two preceding uplegs. There is thus a certain probability that gold investors will finally be rewarded for their angst and patience during the past 14 months of consolidation.

I doubled up on the 680 call yesterday in the morning for 10 (average's me in at 11), dumped the whole position @ 30 during lunch today, went higher, probably going in the money, I'm not crying. I'm crying because I almost bought the 675 @ 16 instead.

I bought some 700's @ 1 and am still holding.

The dollar is tanking all last week and early this week and gold barely moves. Oil prices spike, suddenly gold does. So, the dollar is crap that noone cares about, oil makes the world turn.

      Hi Ostap!

Everything I've managed to get my hands on in terms
of forecasting is saying this past few weeks have been
another great buy point. Just about everyone
is forecasting higher prices for the metals by the end
of the year as the Fed buckles under a sagging housing
market. No sign of "KA" yet, but we're not letting our guard
      down ...

"KA" should not be under-estimated. I'm thinkiing it will be
something like hitting a 20,000 foot air pocket while riding
United Airlines' "friendly skies" ! - (friendly skies my foot)

Sorry to 'gum up' your last thread !
