proposal: Keep this as a running thread for pithy one-liners that don't warrant a new thread in and of themselves. Perhaps it will clear some the iTulip clutter.

"For a single adult in 2009, the poverty line was $10,830 in pretax cash; for a family of 4, $22,050."

"And now that we are in the European Union, we have the right to go to other countries. It is better there." (A European Roma)

"The general said that the American military would have substantially enlarged the 'oil spot' - military jargon for secure area - around Kabul." (Point of Origin; Nam. Was called the inkblot strategy then. General, your Freudian skirt is showing....)

Heard it today. Does that count?

The Republican nominee for a Senate seat in Delaware says she will be guided by the Constitution, "not my personal beliefs" about abstinence, masturbation and other social issues.

I didn't know that the Constitution said things about masturbation.

The Constitution says the Federal government has no powers except those enumerated on the Constitution.

Too often these days, "our" legislatures in the U.S. Congress pass laws based on what they (or those financing their elections) prefer, regardless of whether the Constitution empowers them to legislate on a matter.

O'Donnell is 41 years old and has never been married. If she lives up to her publicly stated personal beliefs that's quite a volcano awaiting to erupt there.

              re deleveraging cycles:
"Though it takes about a decade to return the economy to its former peak levels, it typically
takes over 20 years for real stock prices to reach former highs, because equity risk premiums take a very
long time to reach pre-deleveraging lows."

Seriously! Thats hilarious I highly doubt she lives up to anything... With all those republicans they seem to be about the most hypocritical about sexuality... Bashing gays and then being caught with cabana boys.... I wouldn't be surprised if this little "virginal" miss isn't at some point caught at a glory hole ;)

Earlier this year, Illinois said it had found a way to save billions of dollars. It would slash the pensions of workers it had not yet hired. The real-world savings would not materialize for decades, of course, but thanks to an actuarial trick, the state could start counting the savings this year and use it to help balance its budget.
