Look on the bright side, Mega. It appears the British government is only looking to ease credit to prevent general asset price deflation, which may not necessarily prop-up the housing bubble. It could be worse -- the U.K. could have done as the U.S. has done and directly targeted the housing market with various stimulus packages ($8,000 tax credits), giveaways (government-sponsored principal reduction), and other shenanigans (buying worthless real-estate backed securities at par and not foreclosing on seriously delinquent mortgages.)
