  • Let Them Eat Pizza

Pizza Hut will lower prices at its restaurants in a new campaign beginning Sunday. In February, it priced all of its pizzas at $10 to stimulate sales.

Pizza Hut, part of Yum Brands, plans to introduce a campaign on Sunday for new everyday low prices on its mainstay menu items. Most medium pizzas will cost $8, most large pizzas will be priced at $10 and most so-called specialty pizzas — like the new behemoth Big Italy pie, which has 18 slices — will cost $12 each.

    Deflation?

Don't tell me Pizza Hut is now using inferior ingredients. They have always used inferior ingredients.

Methinks they must be eliminating some ingredients given the persistent rise in their input costs...with perhaps the possible exception of staff labour. Cheeseless pizza anybody?

I've only eaten at Pizza Hut a few times in my life, and regretted it every time. Their pizza looks great, it looks like it'll taste great, and then disappoints by tasting like cardboard. But that's an insult to cardboard...

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

You would beg for Pizza Hut if you ever tried Dominos Pizza. A good local pizza parlor is the best pizza. Some offer low price days, or coupons in local papers.

I live in NJ so I can't speak to how the rest of the country makes pizza. Here it is good.

Thin crust pizzas are the in thing! My guess is thinner crusts -- which require smaller amount of cheese and pizza sauce (otherwise the crust will not support the weight.)

Fresh Choice prices have been steadily rising -- still the best deal around. However, some of the price rise can be explained by them embracing the "Localization" movement -- they are trying to keep the money within the community as far as possible.

                Re: Let Them Eat Pizza

Why is it so expensive in the US, I brought a Friday night Pizza and paid $6.95 (AUD) pick up - 4 toppings - Bacon mushroom onion and pineapple
It was very tasty with generous amounts of topping. 'Eagle Boys Pizza' keeps Dominos and Pizza Hut honest.
Currently there is a 'War' on three fronts.
1/ Diameter shrinkage - with the American Chains reducing the 12inch to 10inch.Eagle Boys are running a campaign 'full size 100% of the time'
2/ Reduced ingredients - Eagle Boys have Nationally shamed the others by keeping quality and quantity standards.
3/ Cheap Tuesday's - Unlimited traditional Pizzas for $4.95 pick up All day Tuesday.
they also have a premium range which is more expensive - http://www.eagleboys.com.au/menu/premium-range/ which are to die for. This range is can cost up to $14 (seafood) but it carries the base pizza prices and cheap Tuesdays.
BUT (yes there is always a but)
Prices cannot be maintained due to Floor rent, flour price (wheat) and cheese costs(thanks China) and in the immediate future I expect a 20-30% rise. They will however overtake the international chains as the leading maker in Australia this year. but it has not been easy with Pizza Hut being extremely predatory. Quality/ standards however will win in the end. Eagle Boys do not do sit down restaurants for obvious reasons. The profit margins on Pizza's are continually

Unfortunately, quality and standards do not seem to be winning in the end here in the U.S. As I have whined somewhere else on these forums, it is my belief that a significant number of Americans are incapable of separating the wheat from the chaff. This is a key reason why crappy Chinese products flood and squeeze out quality products from the markets here.
It looks like a race to zero here and it's terribly discouraging.
