Hahah, politicians are so clueless, either that or she is grandstanding for votes.

You fix the economic situation in the areas of high violence, reform the schools, and legalize/regulate/tax pot and a few other "recreational drugs" and you'll see nearly all that violence nearly disappear within a few years.

If you ban the guns or even just make them more difficult to get legally the criminals won't care since they got them illegally in the first place, for them nothing changes. They're violent criminals, if they respected the law at all there wouldn't be a problem anyways since shooting people is, you know, illegal.

Oh but doing the right thing is expensive and "risky" since those actions wouldn't bear fruit for years, meanwhile come election time your opponents will drag your name through the mud. I bet they get themselves to sleep by thinking, "might as well just maintain the status quo I guess, besides the other guy is probably worse then me, yea...".
