  • Latest Foreign Holders of US Treasuries Report: Not bad, but also not good

A healthy (?) $72.8B in net US Treasury purchases in April 2010.

    But again, the usual suspects:

    UK with +42.2B
    Japan with +10.6B
    Oil Exporters with +9.8B
    Caribbean Banking Centers with $4.9B
    Canada (!) with $5.1B

China chimes in with all of $5B. China Treasury holdings still lower than at anytime between June and November 2009.

    2010 totals: $266.9B of which
    $140.9B by the UK
    $29.8B by Japan
    $31.9B by the Oil Exporters
$24.8B by the Caribbean Banking Centers
    $28.9B by Canada (!)
    $13.6B by Thailand (!)

Fed swap lines? Print up some sterling, exchange for $, and bid UST.

It is sort of like a cross between a ponzi, check-kiting scheme, and shell game.

I now believe that bond vigilantes are very much aware of what is going on, but they have no where to go. None of the real players want it to end.
